John 14:16-17 (NKJV) 16 "And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you."
"After His resurrection, [Christ] ascended to His appointed honor. Before the heavenly universe and the worlds unfallen He was to be enthroned. ... He had conquered the world, and His ascension to heaven was made with great honor. Commander of all the heavenly host, He returned to His own dominion amid great demonstrations. The chariots of God are twenty thousand, even thousands of thousands. These escorted Him who was the Resurrection and the Life, with a multitude of captives, raised from their graves to join the armies of heaven. {Ms44-1898.9} ... {Ms44-1898.10} Christ determined to bestow a gift on those who had been with Him and on those who should believe on Him, because this was the occasion of His ascension and inauguration, a jubilee in heaven. What gift could Christ bestow rich enough to signalize and grace His ascension to the mediatorial throne? It must be worthy of His greatness and His royalty. Christ gave His representative, the third person of the Godhead, the Holy Spirit. This gift could not be excelled. The divine Spirit, converting, enlightening, sanctifying, would be His donation, because He would give all gifts in one. {Ms44-1898.11}
This is an exhaustive Bible study on the Holy Spirit, establishing the presence and distinct work of the Third Person of the Godhead throughout the Scriptures.
This page has many many Scriptures and quotes on the person and work of the Holy Spirit, the Third Person of the Godhead. I believe you will find this page exceedingly helpful.
On this page you will learn about the lines of evidence followed to establish the Personhood of the Holy Spirit.
The best evidence for the Personhood of the Holy Spirit is the many “Three” statements where the Three Persons are listed with descriptors such as “Three Great Worthies,” “Three Highest Powers of the Universe,” “Three Great Instrumentalities of Heaven,” etc. In my research I found 25 to 30 of these titles, of which many are used multiple times in her writings. The repeated use of these “Three” statements give abundant proof that the Holy Spirit was a distinct member of the Godhead. On this page you will find many of these "Three" statements where the three Persons are listed, along with a "Three" descriptor. I believe this affords the strongest evidence found in Ellen White's writings for the Personhood of the Holy Spirit.
An added blessing found in studying the three statements is a more wonderful understanding of baptism as a covenantal service where the Three Worthies of Heaven enter into covenant relationship with the newly baptized believer. At this link you will find one of the most instructive sermons given in this regard:
On this page are written resources from Mrs. E. G. White and several other authors.
On this page are wonderful quotations on the Holy Spirit.
Our Father in Heaven greatly desires that His people would be united. Why is that so? Because unity is the greatest proof that Jesus was sent from heaven. Read more about the role of the Holy Spirit in bringing unity by clicking on this link.
Here you will find Bible verses and quotations on the need of praying for the Holy Spirit.
"The “Latter Rain” is coming to ripen the golden harvest for the garner of God. Take care, dear reader, lest unbelief in you quench the Spirit, and shut you away from this great blessing designed for “them that believe.”
"'Quench not the Spirit.' We quench fire with water. And prominent among the means of quenching the Spirit of God is unbelief. Jesus, in His own country, did not many mighty works because of their unbelief. There is at the present time almost a universal state of unbelief in regard to the operations of the Holy Spirit, especially in the manifestation of the gifts. Unbelief shuts the Spirit of God away from the mind. It quenches the Spirit, and leaves the masses exposed to the delusions of these last days. {3SG 19.1} Again, those who by unbelief quench the Spirit in these last days will be illy prepared to share in the great blessings which God promises by the prophet Joel, quoted by Peter, Acts 2:17, 18. “And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; and on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.” The “Former Rain” was given on the day of Pentecost, and enjoyed by the early Christians, to cause the Gospel seed to germinate and take root. The “Latter Rain” is coming to ripen the golden harvest for the garner of God. Take care, dear reader, lest unbelief in you quench the Spirit, and shut you away from this great blessing designed for “them that believe.” {3SG 19.2}—James White
