Arthur Whitefield Spalding was a noted educator, prolific writer, pioneer of the Home Commission at the General Conference, and co-founder of Fletcher Academy. 

Belle Wood-Comstock was a public school teacher for seven years prior to studying medicine in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1909 she graduated in medicine at the University of Southern California. She specialized in endocrinology. She also wrote several books.
